Sustainable Development
Sustainable development is a long-lasting development that does not have much adverse effect on the environment and conserve natural means and resources in the long run. Sustainable development is very essential for the conservation of the environment. Development activities are done for the meeting the needs and aspirations of people. But if the environment gets deteriorated then the people will be affected. It will make the life of people very difficult to survive in the surrounding. In this present context, the importance of the sustainable development is wider to make a sustainable life.
Importance of sustainable development
- Proper use of resources: Sustainable development emphasizes the proper use of natural resources. Proper use of minerals, drinking water, pesticides, and chemical fertilizers helps to sustain the fertility of the land and to produce more in the long-term. Resources should not be wasted while using, This will minimize the use of resources.
- Accountability: Sustainable development makes people and developers responsible and accountable for what they do with nature. People are oriented on the need and principles of sustainable development. It changes their attitude towards natural resources of sustainable development. It changes their attitude towards natural resources and the environment. They use fish, forest products, medicinal plants, and mine. But the people should also be responsible and conscious of their conservation too. Environmental resources are common property. It is our responsibility to take care of them and use them properly. The development of this attitude contributes to the conservation of natural, social, and cultural aspects.
- Development of basic aspects: The principles of sustainable development must give priority to the basic needs as it is very vital for the environment. Agriculture, health, education, tourism, and socio-economic improvements are kept in consideration before conducting bigger developments.
- Public Participation: Sustainable approach creates awareness among local people for the conservation of natural resources due to which they are encouraged for their active involvement in the conservation of the environment. It helps to increase the participation of local people to protect their resources.
- Limit of development: The aspirations of peace are beyond the limit. With this objective, people conduct numerous development activities though they know that over-exploitation of environmental resources is not friendly to the environment to meet their needs. The maximum use of limited resources, especially non-renewable and other natural resources severely affects the environment. It means development activities should not be launched beyond the carrying capacity of the mother earth. The application of this concept encourages people to use the resources properly and conduct development activities in a sustainable way.
- Long-term vision: Sustainable development is far-sighted. It comprises with future while using resources. Development works are launched to meet their long-term goals. Sustainable development helps to develop a long-term vision of the development. They are involved in their implementation that assists in the conservation of the environment.
